Welcome to the Winchester Girl Scouts home page – we are glad to have you help us develop girls of courage, confidence and character that will help make the world a better place!

Girl Scouts is a volunteer organization, so everything depends on families getting the word out and becoming involved.
If you have a girl in grades 1-12, please reach out and we’ll see if there is already a troop or whether we need to start a new troop!  Just email winchestergirlscouts@gmail.com with your name, your girl’s name, her school & grade, and we’ll find a troop.
For those in K, our goal will be to collect several K families together per elementary school who are interested in joining Girl Scouts, pick a time & date for a come & see meeting that someone from the town team will run, and send out invites to all of the girls at that school. The best thing to do right now is chat with other new K families & find a few others that are also interested!  Then pick a time and we’ll get rolling 🙂
At the K level, the girls will be Daisies and will focus on earning the petals which are based around the Girl Scout promise and law.  Usually troops meet once a month at a time that works for the families — either afterschool, early evening, or on the weekends.  Daisy troops tend to meet for 45-60 minutes to keep the girls engaged but not overwhelm them.  Each family is expected to help out, but doesn’t have to attend every meeting.  There are two main models of leadership: traditional, where one or two adults decide to be the leaders & plan the year out and then other families help out with snacks, being the 2nd adult at events, chaperoning field trips & so on.  The other model is a cooperative troop where one adult agrees to be the communications point, but each meeting is planned by a different family and the work is spread out across all of the families participating.  Both models work and have their pluses/minuses.  Which leadership model as well as the meeting date & time will be the big thing that we discuss & decide on at the come & see meeting.
As an FYI, Girl Scout membership goes October 1, 2021 to September 30, 2022.  For girls, the membership will be $40 and allow them to participate in all of their troop activities plus activities offered by Winchester Girl Scouts as well as through our Girl Scout council.  We ask that every family register at least one adult (the adult who will be helping the troop) as well as be CORId through Girl Scouts.  Adult registration costs $25.  There is complete no-application financial aid (you just check a box) if needed.  Uniforms tend to run in the $40-50 range depending on the choices made by the troop.  And then the troop will likely collect some dues to help buy supplies — usually also around $50 for the year.
